My Counselling Approach

As an Impetus, a positive stimulant, the counsellor motivates the clients toward meaningful change, growth, and healing. My focus is on achieving psychological, physical, emotional, and social equilibrium—essential for optimal mental well-being. I enhance clients’ awareness and insights through research-informed psychotherapy techniques, offering integrative counselling perspectives to find practical solutions for their difficulties. Life’s challenges can feel overwhelming, but you don’t have to face them
alone. Let’s work together to find clarity, strength, and healing.

Why a Counsellor?

The Australian and New Zealand Mental Health Association defines counselling as a form of psychotherapy as: “a process of working through
your problems with a qualified and registered counsellor” (ANZMH, 2024).
Counselling is crucial for mental health as counsellors focus on holistic well-being through psychotherapeutic techniques, goal-setting, and coping strategies rather than diagnosis or medication. This collaborative approach helps clients reshape their thinking, fosters behavioral change, and equips them to manage stress effectively.

Who Needs Counselling?

Contrary to the belief that only those in crisis seek counselling, even individuals leading satisfying lives can experience emotional difficulties and benefit from therapy. Others may face challenges related to themes such as loss, trauma, or grief. While some people can navigate their emotions independently or confide in friends and family, others may find it difficult to open within their support network. For these individuals, talking to a counsellor can be the best option to explore their feelings and work toward the best possible solution. Professional counsellors adhere to strict ethical standards regarding confidentiality, ensuring that clients can share their personal experiences in a safe and private therapeutic setting.

Signs It's Time For Counselling & Therapy

Navigating Integrative Psychotherapeutic Techniques.

Psychology Today notes over 400 types of psychotherapy. At Impetus, we personalise therapy by considering each client’s personality, culture, and spiritual beliefs. For example, we may apply cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) as a baseline to help clients recognise how their thoughts affect their mood and behaviour, promoting healthier thinking patterns.  We may use narrative therapy to help the client express the hidden emotional turmoil, with writing making the healing process smoother and more transforming. Other evidence-based preferred psychotherapeutic modalities are as follows.

Online, Telehealth and In- Person Modes of Therapy

  • Recent research has indicated that online psychotherapy and counselling are as effective as in-person therapy. Our online and telehealth counselling allows you to access support from anywhere, removing the need for travel and making it easier to fit therapy into your busy schedule. You can inquire whether a counsellor’s accessibility matches yours at your convenience without even leaving your comfortable place. We offer in-person services to children, women, girls and couples counselling only.

Important Note

Our counselling services are for ongoing support, not crisis intervention. If you are experiencing thoughts of suicide or self-harm, please seek immediate help by contacting Lifeline at 13 11 14 or visiting your nearest emergency department. Your safety is our priority.
